Edible Aesthetics

There must be a thousand different ways to pipe flowers onto cupcakes and cakes, with a million different colors and hundreds of different icing tips. I used tip 2D and 167. Wilton tip 2D allows me to pipe complicated roses onto cupcakes in a matter of minutes and tip 67 helped pipe the small leaves on the flowers. Tip 2D allows you to pipe different looking flowers all with one tip. Here’s two examples of how I piped them, though many more methods exist. Note: the firmer and thicker the icing, the better your flowers will hold up, and it also allows you to try different piping techniques. Also hold the icing bag vertically, not at an angle.

The Aesthetics of a Cliché Lover

Each person holds a unique idea of the perfect boyfriend or girlfriend somewhere in their mind. From good looks, to sexiness, to intelligence, to kindness, we each idolize and ‘fangirl’ over someone or the idea of someone (who probably doesn’t exist). Perhaps it’s not the person we fall in love with, it might just be the aesthetic in the different characteristics they embody. Here’s my own personal and unrealistic list of cliché qualities and characteristics I look for in my own ideal boyfriend.

  • Good looking inside and out. As much as I would love to date someone who looks like Keanu Reeves (since Keanu himself is unfortunately out of grasp), I look for someone who treats strangers around him as well as he would treat me.
  • Can read my mind and my mood perfectly and always knows the right thing to say. Hate to say it, but girls be heckin’ complicated to read especially emotionally. Gotta get a man who will ask me what’s wrong even though I say I don’t want to talk about it when I really want to.
  • A charitable person. Because a charitable man is a sexy man. I want someone who’s willing to volunteer with me and help give back to the community and its people.
  • Will adapt well with my friends and introduce me to his own friend circle. In my opinion, friends reveal the most about someone you like. They can tell you all the flaws, quirks, and beautiful qualities in someone. They can also spill the tea about exes and tell you all the embarrassing stories.
  • A big romantic heart. Nothing makes me happier than random flowers and little gifts or even little notes left here and there. I’m definitely an old fashioned romantic at heart and I want someone to act upon it.
  • Not afraid to show me off or embarrass me in public. While I hold a gut feeling it’d be quite awkward to be called hot by a boyfriend in public somewhat loudly, I think I’d secretly enjoy it. It’d be nice to know you’re valued enough and they feel no hesitation in telling you so in front of a crowd of strangers.

While these traits I admire and would enjoy in a boyfriend, I think the most aesthetic and beautiful trait you can find in someone is the imperfection. Finding the human in someone makes them perfect, you see they’re the same as you and feel the same emotions you do. Very cliché to say the imperfections make someone perfect, but it’s the truth. The perfect person hides the biggest flaws. Finding the aesthetic in their mistakes and their not-so-good traits or habits makes them perfect for you.

Bullet Journal Aesthetics

A December calendar bullet journal… apologies for the poor picture quality

Each artist makes their bullet journal unique, combining ideas from all sorts of sources. Some of my own came from little ideas I saw on Instagram, while others I drew from my own imagination. While I do some calligraphy in my free time, trying to ‘bullet journal’ allowed me to incorporate other little art figures with the lettering.

Audible Aesthetics

The adjective definition of aesthetic: concerned with beauty or the appreciation of beauty. The most beautiful part of music comes from the personal connections each musician makes with a song. The chords don’t need to change according to part writing rules, they don’t need to resolve, the notes don’t need to be perfect or even 100% correct. The aesthetic of music comes from the sound each musician makes and shares with the world.
